Lago Stobel is nicknamed Jurassic Lake for a reason. World renowned for its massive rainbow trout that cruise the shorelines hunting leeches and scuds. The water clarity and temperature plus abundance of food creates ideal habitat for producing massive fish. Twenty pounders and larger are caught every season at this destination.
When hooked these rainbows make reel screaming runs and acrobatic jumps. If you love fly fishing, then Lago Stobel is a must for your adventure planning.

Species: Giant Rainbow Trout, occasional brown trout in lagoons
Starting Point: El Calafate, Argentina
Location: Southern Patagonia
Season: Mid-October- Mid April
Accommodation: Climate controlled lodge near Laguna Verde lagoon
Lago Stobel is world renowned for producing some of the largest rainbow trout in the world. It is the main attraction and Laguna Verde Lodge has access to 25 kilometers of private lake shore. Wind can sometimes be a challenging factor at this location so having protected coves and bays is necessary during the fishing day. Some of the famous fishing spots include Monsters Bay, Camelot Bay, Finger Bay, Moro Bay, Tasmania Bay, Sea Bay, Puesto Bay, The Aquarium and Dry Fly Bay.
Fishing these sheltered waters ensures you enjoy outstanding fishing action even in the hardest of conditions.
The Barrancoso River feeds into Lago Strobel and the estancia has 10 kilometers of private access. In November to mid-December, and mid to late April large rainbows move from the lake into the river to prepare for spawning. This provides an extremely exciting sportfishing opportunity for massive trout in a clear stream reaching 5-15 pounds.
In January-March the river has excellent dry fly fishing opportunities for resident trout in the 10–16 inch range. Occasionally a large fish will hold stay in the river all summer so always be ready for a large fish.
Any month the river is a nice option if wind makes fishing on the lake challenging. The river has many canyon areas that provide breaks from the wind.
The Smaller Lakes and Lagoons on the estancia often get overlooked because of Lago Stobel. However, these lakes deliver awesome fishing for trout up to 10+ pounds. Generally, the trout are rainbows, but there are a couple lakes that have brown trout and once and awhile a surprise brook trout. The lodge overlooks Laguna Verde and is nice fishing option in the early morning or after a day at Stobel.
Moro Creek is a small stream that runs through Estancia Laguna Verde, chaining over 12 small and medium-size lakes on the property. The Estancia fishes 5 sections of this unique creek as well as the inlet and outlets of several productive lakes. This incredible creek is very much dependent on snowfall so if you want to fish it then come in November or December.
