Record-Class Peacock Bass in the Remote Amazon

If you’re chasing the biggest peacock bass in South America, The Curicuriari is where you want to be. This exclusive destination—located deep in the Amazon rainforest—is home to record peacock bass and some of the largest peacock bass ever caught.  This is a limited-access fishery on indigenous lands. Only a small number of anglers are allowed each year, ensuring low pressure and consistent opportunities at giant peacock bass. It’s one of the few fisheries on the continent where anglers have a real shot at landing a 20+ pound trophy peacock bass or encountering a peacock bass world record contender.

The Fishing

The Curicuriari is built for anglers targeting giant peacock bass—specifically Cichla temensis, the largest and most aggressive peacock bass species. This is a true trophy fishery. Anglers often land fish over 15 pounds and have a real chance at catching a 20-pounder. Every cast could connect with the biggest peacock bass of your life.

While the catch rate for giant peacock bass may be lower than other fisheries, the quality is unmatched. And for those looking to boost their numbers, Cichla orinocensis (butterfly peacock bass) are also found here in good quantities. These fish can exceed 10 pounds and are pound-for-pound some of the strongest fighters in Amazon rainforest fishing.

Guides here are experts—many have fished this water for years, keeping detailed notes on patterns, locations, and fish behavior. They’ll put you in the right spot, coach your presentation, and work tirelessly to help you succeed.

This is serious fishing for large peacock bass. Anglers are encouraged to practice their casting skills before arriving in Brazil—especially with baitcasting gear. Casting a range of lures with different weights can help build comfort and accuracy. One of the most commonly used lures on this river is the Highroller (also known as the Woodchopper). Purchasing one, removing the hooks, and practicing in a yard or local park is a great way to prepare. The more accurate the cast, the better the chances of landing a trophy peacock bass.
